Two Weeks Old
Why You're Winning. Why You're Losing.
WINNING
I thought it would be fun at this early date to see who the most profitable players were.
These are the players who are doing great for whom hopes weren’t so high to start the year.

The winning hitters:
The winning pitchers:
COMP is a composite of preseason prices, giving an idea of what expectations were two weeks ago. A $0 value there means the player wasn’t rostered in AL or NL only leagues.
P/L is the Profit or Loss, in this case Profit, for each player so far.
If you have a disproportionate number of these guys on your team you’re probably near the top of the standings in your league. And I won’t say that some of these mini-breakouts won’t persist, but most aren’t going to survive to this extreme.
LOSING
On the other hand, you paid for some players who haven’t gotten going yet.
Losing hitters:
Losing Pitchers:
These lists are the opposite. If you have a lot of these guys your team is probably hurting, though note that even a cheap pitcher can cause a lot of pain. And some of these disasters are not on anyone’s roster. And you have to figure that some of these struggling but coveted pitchers are going to be much better at some point.
The same is true of the hitters, except that this list selects for the most expensive hitters who are doing the least. It’s too soon to panic, but always worrisome when your best players aren’t doing it.
THE LESSON
It is, of course, to practice patience. Over the next month or so the stumblers will right themselves, at least many of them will, and those off to a quick start will soon discover just how hard that is to sustain. The wisest course is to stay the course while things settle down and even out a little, but keep an eye out for those with mad eyes looking to fix their teams aggressively.
They’re the most likely to deal away their future for just a little current comfort and the feeling that they’re doing something.
HOUSEKEEPING
Feel free to subscribe, but the newsletter will be infrequent and free during the season.
And your comments and messages are always welcome.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
