A READER ASKED

A reader who is no fan of the computer age asked for updated position sheets.

A reader who was a fan of the computer age could put such things together out of the Master Sheets, but this seemed like a reasonable request. Until I started looking more closely at the details.

For instance, if I do AL and NL, do I also do mixed?

Leagues I play in use 10 and 15 games to qualify at a position, while many of you play in leagues that require 20. How do I handle the distinctions?

What is a DH?

And how about minor leaguers?

I answered these questions like this:

Mixed League, with each player’s league listed, so it’s easy to filter them out or delete them line by line.

I filtered each position by 15 games played, but I showed the actual games played for each position. If you play in a league with 20 games required you can delete the guys who played between 15 and 20.

DH is everyone I put a price on who didn’t play at least 20 games at one position. Some of these guys will qualify at a position because of their minor league games played, or because your league says players like this qualify at the position they played most. I’m afraid you’ll have to sort this out. The big guys are genuine DHs. You may have to move some of the others.

Minor leaguers with no games played in the majors last year, and Pete Crow-Armstrong for some reason, have 999 as their games played at the position I think they’ll qualify for in most leagues. As with all things GPBP, please double-check your league’s rules against my assumptions.

That last piece is most important. Know your league’s qualifying rules and make sure the players on your list are properly classified.

Also, note that multiposition players are listed in multiple charts, but I’ve included the actual games played data so it’s easier to scan for multiposition and cross a player off all the positions when he’s acquired.

As a sample, here’s the CATCHER list as a JPG.

After the paywall you’ll find the other positions, plus links to a Google Sheet and a Google Doc with the same information.

Okay, here comes the wall…
